Dr. Charles Mwansambo

Alternate Board Member (2022 - 2024)

Dr Charles Mwansambo is a UK trained Paediatrician and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health .

He  retired as Principal Secretary for Health , Malawi, early 2023 . He previously  served in the same Ministry as  Chief of Health Services and  as Consultant Paediatrician and Head of Department  at  the Kamuzu Central Hospital in the Capital City, Lilongwe until August 2010 when he moved to the Ministry of Health Headquarters.

He is a member of the Every Newborn Action Plan  Global  Management Team;

Member of the Advisory Council  of the African Network for the Care of Children and Adolescents (ANECCA);  Immediate past Chairperson, Board of Trustees of the  Lighthouse  HIV/AIDS Trust, Lilongwe, Malawi; and was member of the Commonwealth Advisory Committee on Health (CACH)- 2019 to 2023.

He is recipient of  the 2022 Hillman Olness Award  by the American Academy of Paediatrics in recognition of his lifetime service and lasting contribution to Global Child Health.

His research interests are  in  Maternal , Newborn and Child & Adolescent Health.
